“Spray Paper Portaits”
“Spray Paper Graffiti portraits are simply evocative; it feels as if Marqueo’s ‘third eye’ detects his subject’s very essence, momentarily capturing, then carefully crafting layers that literally draw you into a timeless reality heretofore unseen. Portraiture as only he can render.”

In a time where it is hard to find things that are true & authentic when it comes to art, viewing Marqueo’s work gives hope where there is none. From his simple use of lines, to hand cut typography, to the beautiful usage of photography, Marqueo brings all of those elements together for the purpose of creating a visual idea that has a deeper meaning to his work than most artist of today. It’s one thing to have technique as your main approach to the work, but to have a concept that is executed with a signature style takes technique to a another level. I think that level is only achieve by a select few & Marqueo is one those that thrive on that level.

A man’s ability to create is one of our greatest God given talents. As one examines the work of Marqueo we immediately see a person with an artistic intellect making art for today and tomorrow. The use of his paper media with overlapping shapes create an emotional characteristic that somehow tells you a great deal about who the artist really is. Masterful use of strong linear structure lets you know that Marqueo has an intrinsic design sense. Having met Marqueo in his early years at Howard University I have watched him move from an exceptional student to a polished professional. During this evolution, Marqueo’s tenacious hunger for excellence has turned him into a shinning star that is glowing forever brighter—he will never burn out.

Marqueo reminds me of awesome. I’m not sure where or when I first needed reminding. A big wheel stolen. A life lost lost in a Jurassic Park 3 of emotions. In this rio grande of understanding I will not soon relent my desire for some kind of visual Dorito taco. I see Marqueo actuating what is the ultimate essence of greatness. He is—the Dorito Cheeto Frito burrito of visual art. All the tastiest of things in one place—Awesome.
